Dates announced for India polls

India's Election Commission has announced the dates of the country's parliamentary polls.
Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy said polling to elect a new Lok Sabha (lower house) would be held between 16 April and 13 May.
The counting would take place on 16 May, he said.
More than 40,000 officials will be deployed to conduct the elections and 714 million voters will be eligible to cast ballots.
The new parliament has to be constituted by 2 June.
